DEAL SUMMARY

US-based major iron ore miner Cleveland-Cliffs is bidding to take the remaining 14.8% stake in Perth-based miner Portman.

Cleveland-Cliffs is funding its offer partly through existing cash reserves and by drawing down its existing $US600m revolving credit, with a syndicate of banks led by Bank of America.

Total amount available for draw down stands at $US500m (A$688.7m) and Cleveland-Cliffs has at least $US100m (A$137.7m) available in its accounts

Portman holds a 19.9% stake in Golden West, which may raise the complexity of the transaction
