Brisbane-based Carter Newell has appointed five new lawyers, taking the firm’s total number of lawyer appointments since July to 12. “The new appointments reflect the ongoing growth and development of Carter Newell and highlights the diversity of experience we continue to build,” said chief executive, Dr Peter Ellender.
New to the firm’s litigation and dispute resolution team is former senior associate at Minter Ellison Andrew Shute, who has joined as a special counsel. Shute brings with him more than 14 years experience and has in his career advised on a wide variety of public and private sector clients on complex commercial and property disputes. His experience in the court process has led him to become chair of the Association of Legal Support Managers, Queensland which works with the documents and litigation sub-group of the Supreme Court of Queensland's Better Resolution Group.
Also joining the firm in the insurance team is Tracey Maskell, who has been appointed as an associate, having previously been a solicitor at DLA Phillips Fox and TressCox Lawyers. In addition Emma Topen and Kate Clohessy have also joined the insurance team as solicitors.
Carter Newell’s corporate team also has a new addition, solicitor Manjula Soysa. A qualified solicitor in both Sri Lanka and Australia, Manjula specialises in joint venture and shareholder agreements, due diligence investigations, mergers and share swaps, share purchase and business acquisition agreements and licensing and commercial agreements. She has significant corporate experience having worked for a multi-national apparel and plastics corporation as in-house counsel in Sri Lanka for nine years.
