It has been just over a year since John Thwaites (pictured) resigned as deputy Victorian premier and state minister for water, and it would appear that he has changed hats, from 'water' politics to 'sustainable' law at Maddocks.
Thwaites, a former barrister, will work part time out of the firm's Melbourne office as part of its new sustainability and climate change practice. His experience as deputy premier and of ministerial portfolios including planning, health, water and environment will serve him well, as he plays a key role in developing the firm's sustainability & climate change practice by advising key clients, partners and other legal staff.
Dariel DeSousa will rejoin Maddocks, after having spent about a decade working for the World Trade Organization's Geneva office and more recently as the Australian Energy Regulator's director of enforcement and compliance. She used to work for the firm in the mid-1990s and in addition to her international experience she also brings her unique skill in the art of designing and operating energy regulation schemes.
