Hot on the heels of Maddocks announcing its Canberra office opening, King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has announced five new appointments in its Canberra office. Two new partners have been promoted, two special counsel appointed and a new senior associate appointed in the nation’s capital. “These appointments are a significant investment by the firm in the Canberra market and demonstrate King & Wood Mallesons’ commitment to the market," commented Stephen Jaggers, partner in charge of the Canberra office.
Paul Crawford and Dan Kynaston were both made partner on 1 January 2012.
Crawford is now a partner in the national government and real estate sector teams. His work involves governance, procurement, joint ventures, acquisitions and sales and executive management issues.
Kynaston is partner in the national government and dispute resolution teams. He is an experienced government and commercial litigator who specialises in contractual, trade practices, real estate, construction, insurance, workplace and employment disputes, insolvency and debt recovery.
Both Crawford and Kynaston are long time employees of KWM legacy firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques. Crawford has been with the firm since 1997 and Kynaston since 1998.
Bruce Brown joins the office from the Department of Finance and Deregulation where he held the position of special counsel. He brings experience in a range of whole of government programs including procurement and Commonwealth asset management. He is also a former national president of the Australian Corporate Lawyers Association and has also worked at the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, the ACCC and ASIC.
Andrew Leece rejoins KWM after a three year stint as general counsel for Canberra Airport. Leece has been involved in all the Airport’s major transactions including the new terminal project. He brings his extensive experience in the regulatory, infrastructure and utilities experience to the firm’s national government sector team. Leece was previously a senior associate in King & Wood Mallesons commercial and government practice groups.
Kishwar Rahman joins the firm from the Department of Finance and Deregulation where she was a principal legal officer. During her legal career in the public sector, Rahman has worked on a whole of government ICT procurement, developed e-government policy, a range of significant procurement activities and, most recently, advising on land acquisition and compensation.
Rahman started with King & Wood Mallesons on 18 January 2012 and Brown and Leece joined on 13 February 2012 and 5 March 2012 respectively.
